South Korea will be rolling out a large number of “crowd pleasing” robots to assist patrons and visitors to the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Robots, powered by highly advanced artificial intelligence—which have been increasingly operating in the background—are ready to come out front. They are programed to speak, and understand, multiple languages and provide courtesy services like giving directions to pedestrians, delivering food and beverages, and cleaning up behind the crowds. More than that, these remarkably well-built robots will also engage in entertainment, arts, and even sporting. Michael Koziol provides an insightful preview in the IEEE Spectrum.
